Hummelstöcke werden dabei nicht benötigt, weil man die Tunnel an abwechselnden Tagen öffnet, sobald die Blüte beginnt. An einem Tag wird Tunnel Nummer 1 geöffnet, am nächsten Tag Tunnel Nummer 2. Man achtet darauf, die Tunnel schon frühmorgens zu öffnen und erst spät zu schliessen, denn im Sommer beginnen die Insekten ihren Arbeitstag früh und nutzen den Abend, wenn im Garten kein Lärm mehr herrscht. Allerdings wurde bei dieser Methode beobachtet, dass weniger weibliche Blüten bestäubt werden und es somit weniger Früchte gibt.
