The equation is simple: the disappearance of peasants means the disappearance of varieties and the know-how attached to them. This is why it is said that peasants and gardeners are the custodians of seeds, and that we must increase their installation. For all these reasons, we must conserve all the possible diversity of old varieties, and their free and open access, because they are the seeds of the future. The only guarantee of their survival is to be grown in our gardens, not to be kept in fridges or gene banks. Fortunately, the richness and diversity of different food traditions still resist the standardization of tastes and productions, even if from one continent to another the situation is very different. This film is intended as a tool for learning to make your own seeds, which is not very difficult, costs nothing, is even a real pleasure. This knowledge should not remain in the sole hands of specialists who privatize access to seeds through patenting, through the creation of sterile hybrid varieties, all protected by increasingly restrictive legislation and at the orders of multinationals. Making your own seeds is a free act, which allows you to demystify this knowledge, and to be autonomous. On the contrary, it is a matter of a common heritage to be reappropriated, protected and made fruitful.
Vienādojums nav sarežģīts - izzūdot zemniecībai, izzūd arī šķirņu daudzveidība un ar šķirnēm saistītās, praktiskās zināšanas. Tieši tādēļ zemkopji un dārzkopji uzskatāmi par sēklu aizgādņiem, un tās ir divas saimniecības nozares, kuras nepieciešams veicināt. Minētie iemesli mudina aizsargāt visas seno škirņu alternatīvas, nodrošinot brīvu piekļuvi mantojuma sēklām, jo tās ir mūsu nākotnes sēklas. Mantojuma sēklu saglabāšana iespējama vienīgi - tās aktīvi audzējot mūsu dārzos (nevis glabājot saldētavās un gēnu bankās). For example, in France, 700 varieties of oats kept in INRA freezers were burned, a genetic heritage that goes up in smoke, because it is expensive to keep, and that the draft horses have disappeared, them of which oats were the main fuel. But who knows if, one day, we won't have to go back to animal traction? In animal husbandry, the disaster is just as serious. The consequence is that fragility, diseases and epidemics develop without restraint, exacerbated by inbreeding. In the past, each country, each valley had its variety adapted to the terroir. There were many exchanges between peasants. The varieties were traveling. In the 1950s, in China, 10,000 varieties of rice were used, each with its own qualities. But industrial agriculture requires homogeneous and stable varieties, the opposite of the selection criteria for peasants who work on “populations”, and who practice “mass” selection. Populations where there is a lot of diversity, adaptability, evolution, resistance to the fluctuating constraints of the environment. Quite the opposite of industrial “varieties”. It is essential to understand these data because they jeopardize the agricultural future of the planet, while making us believe that they are the only possible way to ensure the feeding of a humanity in demographic expansion.

Industriālās ''šķirnes'' nav spējīgas pielāgoties. To ir svarīgi apzināties, jo industrializētā lauksaimniecība apdraud planētas lauksaimniecības nākotni, vienlaikus pūloties mūs pārliecināt - tikavienīgi industriālā lauksaimniecība spēs gādāt par demogrāfiski augošās sabiedrības vajadzībām.

Today, genetically engineered plants globally cover an agricultural area equivalent to that of Western Europe. Since 2001, it has been known that the ancient maize collections of Mexico, cradle of this culture, are contaminated by GMO maize imported from the United States. These GMOs that they want to impose on us will in no way solve famine and malnutrition, or diseases of plants and humans. On the contrary, they are a danger to the environment and to health. We also know, at the agronomic level, that most plant diseases are created today by industrial agriculture. The monocultures currently practiced by extremely simplified agrarian systems are causing irreversible genetic erosion, leading to future famines. They are an insult to the boundless ingenuity of generations of peasants who, thanks to them, have been able to survive. The monopoly of agribusiness in a standardized and globalized market caused the destruction of these millennial agrarian systems which had provided food for generations.
Mūsdienās - ģenētiski modificēti augi (pasaules mērogā) plešastiek kultivēti teritorijās, kas pielīdzināmas visais Rietumeiropais platībai kopumā. 2001. gadā sabiedrību sasniedza vēstis - tradicionālos kukurūzas krājumus Meksikā (kukurūzas dzimtenē) piesārņojusi no ASV importētā, ģenētiski modificētā kukurūza. ĢMO tiek ieviesti - par spīti mūsu iebildumiem, un tie neatrisinās bada un nepilnvērtīga uztura problēmas, nedz arī spēs apturēt cilvēku un augu slimības. Gluži pretēji - ĢMO apdraud vidi un veselību. Tāpat agronomijas atziņas vēstī - vairākumu mūslaiku augu slimību izraisa tieši industriālā lauksaimniecība. Plaši audzētās monokultūras tiek kultivētas pārmēru vienkāršotās lauksaimniecības sistēmās. Rezultāts - nenovēršama ģenētiskā erozija, bet nākotnē - pārtikas nedrošība. Tādas sistēmas ir apvainojums zemnieku paaudzēm ilgi apliecinātajai, izdzīvotspējīgajai atjautībai. Agrouzņēmumu monopols (standartizēta globālā tirgus ietvaros) izraisījis tūkstošiem gadu seno, neskaitāmas paaudzes barojušo agrāro sistēmu sabrukumu.

We produce our seeds so that each seed participates in the continuity of life on earth and in the dynamics of biodiversity in which man is a stakeholder. Because we are in a time of conflict, and each war, each economic crisis sends individuals, civil societies, back to their most essential needs: housing, clothing, food. And the observation is bitter: a city dweller no longer knows how to cultivate a plant, a peasant depends almost exclusively on a few large multinationals to obtain seeds. In Greece, in Syria, elsewhere, the populations destabilized by the crisis, the war, are looking for seeds. In Syria and Iraq, the cradle of cereals, ancestral seed banks have been systematically destroyed by Westerners: they represented an invaluable heritage of old seeds domesticated by generations of peasants. And it is too dangerous to entrust this heritage to a few “genetic banks” that are difficult for the peasant to access. Do not forget also the bloody “hunger riots” of the past decade (the beginning of the 21st century), mostly urban, in a context of speculation on cereals, and climatic disturbances.
Mēs audzējam sēklSēklas tiek audzētas, lai ikviena sēkliņa piedalītos Zemes dzīvības turpināšanā, kā arī biodaudzveidības dinamikā,; un šajos procesos esam iesaistīti arī mēs - cilvēki. Mēs dzīvojam konfliktu laikmetā - ikviens karš, ikviena ekonomiskā krīze piespiež indivīdus un pilsoniskās sabiedrības meklēt pamatvajadzību nodrošinājumu: pajumti, apģērbu, pārtiku. Novērojumi nav iepriecienoši - pilsētu iemītnieki vairs nezina, kā kultivējams augs, bet zemnieki sēklu ieguvē ir gandrīz pilnībā atkarīgi no dažiem multinacionāliem uzņēmumiem. Grieķijā, Sīrijā, arī citviet pasaulē - sabiedrības līdzsvaru izjauc krīzes, karš, un cilvēki atkal meklē piekļuvi sēklām. Sīrijā un Irākā (labības šūpulī) rietumnieki sistemātiski iznīcinājuši senās sēklu bankas. Sēklu bankās bijis ietverts nenovērtējams seno sēklu mantojums, neskaitāmu paaudžu lauksaimnieku centienpūliņu rezultāts. Tāda veida mantojumu ir bīstami uzticēt vien dažām ''gēnu bankām'', kas zemniekiem ir grūti pieejamas. Nepiemirsīsim arī pēdējās desmitgades (21.gs. sākuma) asiņainos ''bada dumpjus", kas galvenokārt norisinājušies pilsētvidē un saistīti ar nelīdztiesīgu labības tirgu un klimata katastrofām.
