As sementes de aipo têm uma capacidade germinativa de oito anos, que pode às vezes se prolongar até 10 anos ou mais. Essa duração pode ser prolongada por uma conservação a baixa temperatura. Um grama de sementes contém em torno de 200 sementes. A germinação das sementes de aipo pode ser caprichosa, parece que elas têm uma certa dormência.
