At the end of the morning before the hottest part of the day, the different bags for collecting pollen are opened, the pollen is mixed together and then the bag covering a cob is opened. The silk should have grown about 3 to 4 cm within two days.
A reggeli időszakdélelőtt végén, még mielőtt elérkezne a nap legforróbb néhány órája, a virágporgyűjtő zacskókat kinyitjuk, a bennük található virágport összekeverjük, majd kinyitjuk az egyik csövet takaró zacskót. Az a jó, ha a kukoricabajusz körülbelül 3-4 cm-t nőtt két nap alatt.

Használhatjuk az időbeli izoláció módszerét is. Ha uegyanabban a kertben két kukoricafajtát szeretnénk termeszteni, akkor a vetésidejüket néhány héttel toljuk el egymástól! Így elkerülhetjük, hogy az egyik fajta hímivarú virágainak pollenszórása egybeessen a másik fajta nőivarú virágainak megjelenésével. Ellenkező esetben a két fajta biztosan összeporzódik.
