Onion seeds have a germination capacity of two years. This can sometimes stretch to four to five years. As these seeds quickly lose their germination capacity, to lengthen this period keep them in the freezer.

تُوضع البذور في مياه باردة ثم تُصفّى. تغرق البذور الخصبة لأنّها أثقل من غيرها. تُزال الفارغة منها والبقايا التي تطفو على السطح. تُجفّف البذور الجيّدة على طبق فتصبح كالرمل عندما تجفّ.

In cold and wet regions, you can harvest them early to avoid losing the seeds since rain or wind can make them fall. In this case, uproot the whole plants before the seeds are ready and let them mature in a dry place.
في المناطق الباردة والرطبة، يمكن حصادها باكرًا لتجنّب خسارة البذور إذ يمكن أن تتسبّب الأمطار والرياح بتساقطها. في هذه الحالة، يجب اقتلاع النبات بشكل كامل (مع الجذور) قبل أن تنضج البذور ثم تركها تنضج في مكان جاف.
