Onion seeds have a germination capacity of two years. This can sometimes stretch to four to five years. As these seeds quickly lose their germination capacity, to lengthen this period keep them in the freezer.
Uienzaad blijft maar 2 jaar kiemkrachtig, al kan dit soms tot 4 of 5 jaar oplopen. Omdat het zo snel onvruchtbaar wordt, is het raadzaam het zaad in de diepvriezer te bewaren. Zo blijft het langer kiemkrachtig.

Dorsen doen we door de bloemschermen eerst met de hand stuk te wrijven. Verbrijzel daarna de zaaddoosjes met behulp van een deegrol. Schonen doen we met een fijnmazige zeef die de zaden tegenhoudt en het stof doorlaat.
